CHOOSE HAITI is an ethical consumer movement that helped to support the rebuilding of Haiti's economy through job creation in response to the 2010 earthquake that devastated much of the island nation. The project, by Extreme Linen, ran from 2010 - 2012. CHOOSE HAITI produced bracelets made from recycled water bottles and newspapers collected from the streets of Port-au-Prince. The bracelets were made in Haiti, by Haitians who had been displaced after the earthquake and were living in tent camps.
Compared to Lance Armstrong's "Livestrong" bracelets in TIME Magazine, the CHOOSE HAITI bracelets received national media coverage and endorsements by Bill Clinton, Kevin Bacon and Patricia Arquette. Sold at the GAP, Forever21, Footlocker and dozens of other retailers, the initiative brought thousands of jobs to Haitian refugees.
