CHOOSE HAITI Research Programs

To better gauge the effectiveness of the CHOOSE HAITI program over time, we have enlisted the help of Anthropologist Randy Mont-Reynaud, PhD. Mont-Reynaud has spent the past 10 summers conducting research and service work in Haiti. Leading a team of Stanford students and alumni in the highlands of southwestern Haiti, Mont-Reynaud has developed an ethnography of hillside families, their agricultural efforts and other means of livelihood. To learn more about this study, “Making it in Rural Haiti: Hillside Farms, Markets, and How Folks Get By,” visit the Moving Mountains website.

For CHOOSE HAITI, Mont-Reynaud is working with researcher Elisee Abraham, a resident of La Tournelle to develop a pilot survey. The survey employs an "Emic" approach, in which local Haitians will elicit from one another their views, values, ideas on working and living conditions. As an initial stage to research, establishing a clear understanding of these factors will help CHOOSE HAITI to accurately evaluate its impact over time, implement ongoing improvements, and develop a framework for additional study.
